About Us

American Disability Foundation Inc., specializing in Disability Advocacy was founded to address the critical issues of poverty resulting from mental and physical disabilities that often resulted in widespread homelessness in the metro Atlanta Georgia region.

American Disability Foundation was conceived in 1994 after the organization's founder witnessed a very close friend mentally unravel during a pending divorce proceeding and this resulted in his friend committing suicide. A few years later, he witnessed a promising graduate from high school with honors, graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Mechanical Engineering degree 4 years later, and then received his MBA one year later. At age 22 and embarking upon what should have been a very promising career the young man was unable to start his career because he was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia, a chronic mental illness, leaving him 100% disabled and unable to work.

This caused an urgent need for action. After a long career in banking, American Disability's founder retired from banking and decided to address this most pressing situation for this special group of people. American Disability Foundation received federal tax exempt status as a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization from the IRS and incorporated in the State of Georgia to further its mission.

Agency Board of Directors

Oversight of all agency programs and activities are overseen by a volunteer Board of Directors who meets regularly to lead the functions of the organization through a variety of committees. The board's composition includes expertise in disability advocacy, housing development, shelter management, program setup, public policy, administration, and fiscal oversight. Community residents and individuals from the target disabled population is encouraged to bring their expertise and perspectives to board members to allow the board to coalesce the range of knowledge and perspectives needed to initiate its mission and implement its mission.
